CLUB E | MINNEAPOLIS – MONEYBALL FOR ENTREPRENEURS

    11:00-13:00
    11-03-2016

    Moneyball: noun

    Baseball management relying on sabermetrics.

More generally, any management using business analytics.

The venture capital world and broader investment community have long relied on subjective, intuitive methods of assessing opportunities. Is the game changing? For some investors and venture capitalists, the odds of winning are sweetening, by utilizing the philosophy of a quant-based approach to early-stage investing. Data harvesting and algorithms may indeed be able to help, but is it more likely to be a piece of the puzzle, than the solution? Is the good old-fashioned process of detailed research and intuition still the key to hitting that winning homerun?

    Maximizing Your Company’s Value –
Action steps you can take NOW

to increase the future value of your company

Valuable companies have two advantages over ordinary companies. First, they are almost always profitable, and second, they are highly desirable as acquisition targets.

If you had a choice of how to achieve higher profits, wouldn’t the best choice be to build the value of your company at the same time?  Even if you never plan to sell your business, it is always nice to know that it is a real option.  Most business owners find out too late that their business is unsaleable because it has little transferable value which a buyer would pay for.

Becoming a valuable company is a deliberate strategy.  Few achieve this status accidentally. This presentation will teach you what you can do to deliberately put your company on a path to building value while simultaneously increasing profitability.

    Meet the Experts

Michael Lasky, is a nationally recognized expert on building company value by showing privately-held companies how to become brand-centric and thereby vastly increasing their value.  He is also an experienced intellectual property lawyer at the SLW Institute, part of the Schwegman law firm which conducts Brand Boot Camps around the country to help companies become highly valuable.  He is the author of the upcoming book, The Good Brand, about creating brand-centric companies.

Michael Bromelkamp is a principal with the Twin Cities CPA firm Olsen Thielen & Co., Ltd. He has over 40 years of experience working with and advising small and medium-sized, privately-owned businesses.  Mike provides business owners with business valuation and merger/acquisition services.

    AVOID THE AVOIDABLE

    MISTAKES THAT DERAIL SUCCESSFUL COMPANIES

Rick Brimacomb’s company motto “GROW OR DIE” reflects the reality of a competitive marketplace. Yet it’s also true that many companies do both: they grow AND they die. It’s not unusual for companies to “belly up” after years of profitability. And the worst part is, many times such dire outcomes could have been prevented. At November’s workshop, a panel of experts—people who make their living serving and advising growing companies—will discuss common mistakes that derail successful companies. Not trifling missteps, we’re talking about errors and oversights that impede growth and pose a threat to a company’s existence. The workshop will help companies with all facets of the growth challenge, and introduce experts who can serve as trusted resources.

Who should attend?: The workshop will be geared towards entrepreneurs, CEOs, presidents, small-business owners and executives. Questions from the audience will be encouraged. Estimated attendance: 100 to 150

Cost: $29.00, which includes the program, lunch and parking during the event (see below).

Date/location/parking: The workshop will be held Monday, November 14th at the Minneapolis Club. The address is 729 Second Ave. So. – in downtown Minneapolis – at the corner of 8th Street (one way headed east) and 2nd Ave. Enter the parking ramp from the 8th Street side, on the south side of the building.
